23rd Ave construction update: E Yesler Way closure this weekend, weather permitting

(Dream on! Andrew:  weather forecast)

Full intersection closure at E Yesler Way this weekend
As paving work continues north, crews will be working this weekend at the intersection of E Yesler Way and 23rd Avenue. The intersection will be fully closed starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 for crews to complete demolition and paving work. The intersection will open no later than 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31.
  • Neighbors can expect detours, general construction noise, dust and vibration throughout all hours of the weekend.
  • We ask that you please follow the signed detours around the closure and avoid cutting through neighborhood streets!
  • Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses in the area.
Note: This weekend’s paving work is dependent on dry weather. In the event of a weather cancellation, the work will be rescheduled for a future date.
For more details about the work, including a map of the detour routes, please read the latest construction notice.
Upcoming construction activities
  • Early utility work north of E Cherry Street continues as crews replace the water main under the street. Over the coming weeks, work will progress north from E Cherry Street to E Union Street, so expect traffic revisions and temporary side street closures. During this work, drivers can still travel both north and south on 23rd Avenue, though travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Check out the updated construction notice for more information about this work.
  • Paving activities, including intermittent night work, will occur on 23rd Avenue from S Jackson Street to E Yesler Way over the next few weeks. Most work will take place during the day, however periodic night work to complete green saw cutting could occur between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. View the flyer about this work for more information.
  • Crews will not be working on the 23rd Avenue Project over the Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 5–Sept. 7).
  • Dates have not been confirmed for future weekend work at the E Cherry Street, E Yesler Way, and S Jackson Street intersections. Please stay tuned for details.
