23rd Avenue Project: No work Labor Day weekend

No work Labor Day weekend
In observance of the federal holiday, crews will not be working September 5 – 7. We hope you have a wonderful Labor Day weekend.

Partial intersection closure at E Yesler Way, weekdays September 14 – 25
The intersection of E Yesler Way and 23rd Ave will be partially closed to through traffic on weekdays from Monday, September 14 to Friday, September 25. During the weekday closures, crews will complete demolition and paving work originally scheduled for the weekend of August 29 that was postponed due to the weather. The work will take place during regular daytime work hours, Monday through Friday.

Crews will divide the work into 2 one-week closures of one side of the intersection, beginning with the west side September 14 – 18, followed by the east side September 21 – 25. Southbound traffic on 23rd Ave will be maintained at all times, and the intersection will be opened to east- and westbound traffic over the weekends of September 19 and September 26.

For more information about the closures and corresponding detours, please see theconstruction notice about this work.
Central Area Block Party
If you’d like to learn more about what’s happening on the project, please stop by our booth at the Central Area Block Party on Saturday, September 12. The event will be at 23rd Ave and E Cherry St. We hope to see you there!
Upcoming construction activities
  • Intersection work is scheduled at E Cherry St the weekend of September 18 – 21. We will share more details in our email update next week.
  • Early utility work north of E Cherry St continues as crews replace the water main under the street. Over the coming weeks, work will progress north from E Cherry St to E Union St, so expect traffic revisions and temporary side street closures. During this work, drivers can still travel both north and south on 23rd Ave, though travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Check out the updated construction notice for more information about this work.
  • Paving activities, including intermittent night work, will occur on 23rd Ave from S Jackson St to E Yesler Way over the next few weeks. Most work will take place during the day; however, periodic night work to complete green saw cutting could occur between 9 PM and 2 AM. View the flyer about this work for more information.
  • Dates have not been confirmed for future weekend work at the S Jackson St intersection. Please stay tuned for details.
