23rd Ave construction update: E Yesler Way closure this weekend, weather permitting

Full intersection closure at E Yesler Way this weekend
As paving work continues north, crews will be working this weekend at the intersection of E Yesler Way and 23rd Avenue. The intersection will be fully closed starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 for crews to complete demolition and paving work. The intersection will open no later than 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31.
  • Neighbors can expect detours, general construction noise, dust and vibration throughout all hours of the weekend.
  • We ask that you please follow the signed detours around the closure and avoid cutting through neighborhood streets!
  • Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses in the area.
Note: This weekend’s paving work is dependent on dry weather. In the event of a weather cancellation, the work will be rescheduled for a future date.

Upcoming construction activities
  • Early utility work north of E Cherry Street continues as crews replace the water main under the street. Over the coming weeks, work will progress north from E Cherry Street to E Union Street, so expect traffic revisions and temporary side street closures. During this work, drivers can still travel both north and south on 23rd Avenue, though travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Check out the updated construction notice for more information about this work.
  • Paving activities, including intermittent night work, will occur on 23rd Avenue from S Jackson Street to E Yesler Way over the next few weeks. Most work will take place during the day, however periodic night work to complete green saw cutting could occur between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. View the flyer about this work for more information.
  • Crews will not be working on the 23rd Avenue Project over the Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 5–Sept. 7). 
  • Dates have not been confirmed for future weekend work at the E Cherry Street, E Yesler Way, and S Jackson Street intersections. Please stay tuned for details.

23rd Ave construction update: Jefferson closure this weekend


Full intersection closure at E Jefferson Street this weekend
Just a reminder that starting at 7 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 21, the E Jefferson Street and 23rd Avenue intersection will be closed for crews to conduct demolition and paving work. The intersection will reopen no later than 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24.

Neighbors can expect detours, general construction noise, dust and vibration throughout all hours of the weekend. For more details about the work, including a map of the detour routes and information about temporary water service interruptions, please read theconstruction notice.

Please remember that local businesses are open and accessible during construction!
  • To reach Ezell’s Famous Chicken, take E Jefferson Street heading east or enter the local access area heading south on 23rd Avenue from E Cherry Street to E James Street, turn left on 22nd Avenue, then turn left on E Jefferson Street.
  • To get to the Arco station and AMPM at E Cherry Street/23rd Avenue, you can enter at any of the business driveways: off of E Cherry Street or by entering the local access zone on 23rd Avenue.
Demolition and paving work work is dependent on weather and the completion of other preparatory utility work. In the event that the work is cancelled, it will be rescheduled for a future date.

23rd Ave construction update: No work at E Cherry intersection this weekend; E Jefferson closure next weekend


Upcoming E Cherry Street intersection closures postponed until further notice
The E Cherry Street and 23rd Avenue intersection closures planned for Aug. 14-17 and 21-24--this weekend and next--have been postponed due to a shift in the construction schedule. Additional work at the intersection will be rescheduled for a later date. Please stay tuned for details. There will be no work this weekend!
Full intersection closure at E Jefferson Street and 23rd Avenue Aug. 21-24
Next weekend, crews plan to conduct demolition and paving work at the intersection of E Jefferson Street and 23rd Avenue. The intersection will be fully closed to traffic from 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, through 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24.

Neighbors can expect detours, general construction noise, dust and vibration throughout all hours of the weekend. We will share a flyer with more details about the work at E Jefferson Street, including a map of the detour routes and information about temporary water service interruptions, in our email update next week.

Ezell’s Famous Chicken at E Jefferson Street and 23rd Avenue will be open during this work, so please continue showing them your support during construction! Customers can continue to access all area businesses by car, by driving into the local access areas, or on foot.
